Quote I am enjoying

“That’s what storytellers do, we restore order with imagination” Saving Mr. Banks

This week I have been delving into a lot more fiction and enjoying the nuances of understanding human life that are best captured and amplified through fantasy and creative storytelling.

Short Story that felt potent

Everything That Rises Must Converge by Flannery O’Connor

It’s difficult to summarise this poetic yet hard-hitting short story…I encourage you all to read it. Originally published in 1965 a snapshot commentary set on a bus ride in the American South shortly after desegregation. It eloquently, succinctly and with heart-breaking accuracy captures many of the layered stories and beliefs around race and prejudice that still, 55 years later, are being unraveled.

and One More Thing

Your Trauma is Your Medicine

I don’t often speak about my journey healing from childhood sexual abuse here or through much of my work. I prefer to focus on self-empowerment, moving forward and the joy of a life well-lived, particularly in supporting women become the truly independent leaders they were born to be as coaches/healers/medicine women.

Every so often I am reminded of why this is my mission. It is BECAUSE of my trauma that I am so obsessed with supporting other women to feel empowered through their own businesses. It is because of my healing journey that I KNOW we can only build incredible businesses that serve others once we have learned how to serve ourselves.

Tim Ferriss just released a podcast talking about his journey with healing from childhood sexual abuse. It reminded me that trauma touches all of us…suffering lives in the fabric of what it means to be human. Being able to talk about our shame, suffering and our worst experiences opens us up to being able to share the highest highs, the greatest joy and deepest love.

When we stop hiding, we truly begin to live.

Find the podcast and show notes HERE where he shares the conversation with with Debbie Millman who has her own experience of sexual abuse.

If you are moving through your own healing journey with sexual abuse PLEASE do not do it alone – reach out and get support. I am not a therapist or medical professional and cannot support trauma healing in that way but I am ALWAYS happy to share from my own experience and listen to/speak with anyone who has or is struggling with the impact of childhood sexual abuse.
